the point of kyudo is not hitting the target, but centering the self

just a lot of pratice. that is basic principle of all arts.

this if funny. the author spend almost 3 minutes talk about empty mind, spirital thing, and concentration. in the end, he still miss the target.

Hmmm interesting. I totally agree it isnt realistic for battle. Its just like everything else in the martial arts world though. take tai chi for an example. used to be a deadly fighting art practiced for the quick deadly strikes. Now all it is used for by most is meditation and chi. While it is good for that, its original intent is lost.

I read a paper by a Japanese fellow who pointed out, based on his research, kyudo is not that ancient. The point of this is not to hit the target.I suppose you can take anything and make it into meditation. This would be disastrous in a life or death situation, of course.

Just like with everything, something useful and had a purpose is now turned into a useless form or art. I doubt that the actient practitioners where like this.
