What a joy it is to hear Erroll's music. The first time I heard him back in the 50's I became (like a powerful addictive drug) totally hooked to his music. I truly believe what Steve Allen said about him on a radio show --- that you have to have 2 brains to be able to play his music!!!

"the most underrated jazz pianist of them all, garner was the only one who got up to play after tatum had performed, even peterson refused to do that"that's because Garner was equal to Tatum in inventiveness and natural talent -- I enjoy Garner's playing more than Tatum because he was having more fun than Tatum. Tatum was "technically" better, but not as interesting as Garner.

He may have been "short" but in other films you can see that he correctly sat so high, so that his arms go downhill. which makes playing easy. How many times do you see poor kids sitting on their piano at home (on high rollers) just using an ordinary household chair, they have to lift their arms, and bend the hands at their wrists.
