This is just a boot camp. Afterwards, these guys will go on to inherit their father's temple doing funerals, running a business like a restaurant, managing properties such as parking lots which can rake in over 35,000 bucks a year, etc. You can make some good money.

From Birth our minds are filled with things one had no control, Zen allows one a second chance to be filled yourself with the right things. the only prerequisite is to be empty of everything to have none, to have an empty mind. e.g. to be able to recharge a cellular battery in fullness, the battery has to be totally emptied. only then it can get filled fully to reach its utmost potential. Zen allows you to do that. a rebirth, re charge or refill. call it anything you like.

Who are you to say this person Doesn't understand? Are you a Zen master or Dharma Teacher?

But You can still practice Zen as a lay person, I know that with my asperations in life for a career being a Nun would not be the life for me ( though I think I could do it if I could get settled). Although I do agree most people think its all meditation and no Hard work, which it is both and a very hard life indeed.

To those of you who claim they are WILLING to live in a place like this for a year, let me warn you. If you are NOT used to strict and restrictive living, you would want to hang yourself on your first month in any of these monasteries. Only those who are religiously dedicated and patient would last a year. I stayed at an Omnyodo temple in Kyoto and it took me almost 3 months to get settled. Mind you, I had to live there until college.
