I absolutely love that classic film of her's. I actually watched it a couple weeks ago. It's a film you can watch over and over. That's why I had to by a copy. LOL : )

She was brilliant in "The Heiress". Easily one of the most worthy Best Actress winners ever for her role as Catherine Sloper. If you haven't seen it and are a fan of de Havilland's, then I suggest you buy the dvd. I caught the movie one day on TCM and was riveted.

Forgotten about Jones.....and Fontaine yes, she's somewhere still....the "recluse ones"!!!! Celeste Holm still around too....From the golden times more or less I mean of Hollywood.....Ah! read your comment below, here in Canada theres no To Each His Own on dvd!!!! Differs from country to country...Heard from someone in France they had on dvd there Davis's "Beyond the Forest" which also is not on dvd here.....thank god I watched so much on VHS times.....

Don't forget Joan Fontaine and Jennifer Jones who, apart from Olivia and Luise, are the only other surviving Oscar winning Best Actresses of the 30s and 40s!

Indeed, this was a pleasure to watch, but why have so many films of Miss de Havilland become 'lost'? In Britain, apart from GWTW, her 'classics' (for example, Hold Back the Dawn, To Each His Own, Snake Pit) are rarely seen (unavailable on DVD) and My Cousin Rachel seems to have vanished completely. |
